Why I Wrote “A Clean Kid Is A Healthier Kid”

Caring and raising children is extremely challenging, complicated and hard at times. It has been called the most difficult job on earth. Visit any bookstore and to a parenting section you will be staring shelves after shelves of books on parenting. For each point of view found in one book, I will find the opposite point of view in another. There are tons of ideas about how to raise children, but not just how to raise children rather, how to raise healthy children. Nevertheless, I have come to a point in my parenting where I feel confident in saying that its every parent’s crucial task to keep their children safe and healthy.

As a parent, I am obsessed with safety and health of children. This means that I am careful about where the children are, (whether in the house or with the neighbors), who they are with (what they are doing with friends or strangers), what I feed them (what I cook them), when do I spend time with them (teach and guide them), why I have to do things with them (the help and support they need from me), and how they interact with one another and with others (including strangers). Keeping my children safe andhealthy is always in my mind. “A Clean Kid Is A Healthier Kid” is a result of my consciousness on the issues concern children’s safety and health.  As a parent, my task is to teach my children to be good human beings, and by that I don’t mean just to teach them to obey me. What I mean is to teach them to be ethical, responsible citizens. From their very young age, I explain to them the importance of taking care of the things they own, sharing them whenever possible, take care of their bodies-keep safe and clean, dress up well, respect others and help them when they need help, and alike. It takes a long time for children to realize the value of your teachings, but, as a parent, it is my responsibility to help them navigate through these ways of living to help them become ethical human beings. It is my task to teach my children how to care for themselves, not by empty words but by example. Quite honestly, I have a good time with this parental task and I know you should too.

It is the parents’ task to help their children become lifelong learners. Many parents fall-short or may need some push in assuming their parental task. For example many parents treat homework as a chore, which in most cases I think is counterproductive. It is better to make homework an enjoyable experience for everyone involved, just as you can make person al hygiene practices enjoyable rather than a chore. From morning when we get up we brush teeth together, look after ourselves all day long , and up to the evening we finally windup the day we brush teeth together again before bed. What this really means is providing time for each other and for everything-we read books loud together, does homework together, play cards together, and visit library together. And when it time to look after ourselves, our bodies-keep clean, healthy, and fed, we do it together. By making these activities experiences part of daily life, we hope to send message to children that learning is something that occurs all the time rather than as a school activity waiting to be taught or dealt with. I see all of our parental tasks as the way to raising happy, responsible, healthy, and intelligent children. What more would you ask for?

“A Clean Kid Is A Healthier Kid” argues the importance of personal hygiene practices as a good habit for everybody’s health, and it raisesawareness amongst young readers as well as those parents who otherwise assume that personal hygiene is something that occurs naturally to a child, or leave it out to the society or schools to teach them. The book argue the importance of  parents teaching their children from early age by example the importance of personal hygiene practices as it relates to the overall goals of keeping clean, safe and healthy. The most crucial task of a parent is to help their children develop healthy habits. Not only the dirty and untidy kid starts out from dirty and untidy parent, but cleanliness cannot be overemphasized when it comes to our children’s personal hygiene and healthy living.
